Won’t go ; Won’t contest again – President
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has vowed to finish the remaining two years in his term despite protests continuing to call him to ‘go home’.
Speaking to ‘Bloomberg’, he has said, “I can’t go as a failed president… I have been given a mandate for five years. I will not contest again.”
This is his first interview with a foreign media organization since the crisis unfolded.Since March, thousands of protestors have been taking up the slogan of ‘Gota Go Home’ mainly from the protest site in front of the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo. The movement had spread across the globe with many Sri Lankans overseas joining the call.
