World’s largest Blue Sapphire found in SL

The national Gem and Jewelry Authority says that World’s largest single natural corundum (Blue Sapphire) has been found in Ratnapura in Sri Lanka.

The Blue Sapphire has been discovered as a single crystal, named “Queen of Asia”, and weighs 310kg.

The Chairman of the National Gem and Jewelery Authority, Thilak Weerasinghe stated that the gemstone is valued at 15 million carats.

He also stated that the gemstone was inspected and a certificate was issued by the National Gem and Jewelery Authority
